Deepender Hooda Calls for Ahir Regiment: A Push for Military Recognition

In a significant move to recognize the military contributions of the Ahir community, Congress Member of Parliament Deepender Hooda has officially called for the formation of an Ahir Regiment in the Indian Army. This demand comes just one day after Hooda held a well-attended road show in the Ahirwal region of Rohtak. 

Hooda took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his application, which he submitted to Parliament. In his request, the MP seeks to raise this important issue during the upcoming zero hour session. 

The application highlights the long and distinguished history of military service by members of the Ahir community, also known as Yaduvanshis. Hooda points out that Ahirs have consistently stood at the forefront of national defense, participating in numerous conflicts throughout India's history. 

"Ahirs have been protecting our motherland for a very long time," Hooda stated in his application. He mentioned their involvement in resisting invasions by Nadir Shah and Taimur, as well as their participation in the 1857 Revolt, the struggle for independence, wars against Pakistan, the Indo-China war, and the Kargil conflict. 

Given this impressive record of service and sacrifice, Hooda argues that it is time to grant the Ahir community proper recognition for their contributions to national security. He has called upon the defense minister to establish an Ahir Regiment without further delay.

Local Congress leaders have noted that Hooda's actions align with promises he made during his election campaign. The MP had pledged to advocate for the Ahir Regiment's creation once elected to Parliament, and this recent move demonstrates his commitment to fulfilling that promise.

The demand for an Ahir Regiment is not new, but Hooda's formal application in Parliament represents a significant step in bringing this issue to the forefront of national discussion. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to this request and whether it will lead to the formation of a new regiment honoring the Ahir community's military legacy.
