Tensions ran high during the ongoing Haryana Assembly election campaign as Naina Chautala, the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) candidate and mother of former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, faced a violent attack on her convoy. The shocking incident occurred on Friday in the Rohzheda village of the Uchana Assembly constituency, where Chautala was campaigning.

According to reports, as Chautala's convoy reached the village, a group of around 12-15 individuals, described as "anti-social elements," disrupted her speech and began harassing and manhandling the women party workers present. When other party workers tried to intervene, the situation escalated into a physical altercation.

Once the commotion subsided and the convoy attempted to leave, the same group of individuals stopped the vehicles and launched a life-threatening attack, pelting stones and wielding sticks against the convoy. The windshield of one of the vehicles was shattered by a thrown brick.

The assault left two women and six party workers injured, prompting former Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala to rush to the scene upon receiving the news. Dushyant Chautala immediately contacted the Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jind district, Sumit Kumar, demanding strict action against the perpetrators.

Dushyant Chautala also sought the suspension of the Uchana Station House Officer (SHO) for dereliction of duty. The SHO confirmed that one person, identified as Ramdia, a resident of Rohzheda village, has been arrested, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the attack.

The incident has sparked outrage, with Naina Chautala breaking down in tears while condemning the assault on the dignity of women. She questioned whether women are not safe in Haryana and whether they do not have the right to contest elections.

Video footage from the scene has aided the police in identifying eight individuals involved in the attack. However, reports suggest that the remaining accused have switched off their mobile phones.

This violent episode during the election campaign has raised concerns about the safety of political leaders and candidates, particularly women. It has also highlighted the need for stricter measures to ensure a peaceful and democratic electoral process, free from intimidation and violence.
