Police officers snatched the microphone from Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma during his live performance in Gurugram on Saturday night after he began singing a banned song. The incident occurred at Leisure Valley Park in Sector-29 when Sharma started singing "Ek Khatola Jail Ke Bhitar, Ek Khatola Jail Ke Bahar" (One cot inside jail, one cot outside jail), the opening line of his song "Khatola-2."
As soon as Sharma began the song, a police officer took away his microphone and announced that the show was over. The crowd that had gathered to hear Sharma protested loudly, with many fans continuing to sing the song without a microphone. Some young men even attempted to climb onto the stage but were stopped by bouncers.
Fans Demanded the Banned Song
According to eyewitnesses, a large crowd had gathered for Sharma's concert. After performing five to six songs, fans began demanding "Khatola." Sharma initially refused, saying he wouldn't sing it himself but his fans could. However, when fans began singing, Sharma joined in with the first line, prompting police intervention.
Despite losing his microphone, Sharma continued to perform, dancing and interacting with fans. The police officer repeatedly announced that it was 10 PM and the program was over. Eventually, Sharma folded his hands to the audience, said "Ram-Ram" (goodbye), and left the stage.
Seven of Sharma's Songs Banned
The Haryana government has banned nine songs citing concerns about gun culture, with seven of those songs being Masoom Sharma's. Following government orders, "Khatola-2" was removed from Sharma's official YouTube channel.
In a previous interview, Sharma had stated that while his songs could be removed from his channel, he would still perform them at shows if fans requested them. This stance appears to have led to Saturday night's confrontation with police.
