In a widespread show of solidarity, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters protest across Punjab and Haryana against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. While raising slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, clashes erupted as police used water cannons and lathi-charged demonstrators.

AAP's Call to Action:

AAP's call for nationwide protests reflected strongly in Punjab and Haryana, where supporters mobilised to demand Kejriwal's release. Alleging BJP's interference in curbing Kejriwal's rising popularity, protestors call it an attack on democracy.

Protests Turn Violent:

In Kurukshetra, AAP workers attempted to march towards Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's residence, leading to clashes. Police employed water cannons and lathi charges to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries among demonstrators.

Eyewitness Accounts:

Sukhjinder Singh, an AAP worker from Punjab, recounted the use of force by police during their attempt to breach barricades in Chandigarh. He described sustaining an injury to his left eye and bruises on his arms, highlighting the intensity of the situation.

Political Backlash:

Punjab Minister Aman Arora condemned Kejriwal's arrest as an assault on democracy, predicting backlash against the BJP. Other ministers showed similar sentiments, accusing the central government of attempting to hamper Kejriwal's governance model.

Ongoing Demonstrations:

Protests continued at the Mohali-Chandigarh border, with AAP workers strongly expressing their discontent. Punjab ministers joined the demonstration, emphasising the widespread anger and determination to protect Kejriwal's political legacy.

Future Implications:

Amidst rising tensions, political leaders warned of consequences if Kejriwal's arrest remained unchecked. They vowed to raise their voices in support of the Chief Minister, signalling potential unrest across the country.
