As Haryana's state assembly elections approach, Chief Minister Nayab Saini has announced significant welfare measures for the state's youth and families. These announcements were made on International Youth Day in Panchkula.
The government has raised the unemployment allowance under the Saksham Yuva Scheme. Starting August 1, 2024:
- 12th pass unemployed youth will receive ₹1,200, up from ₹900
- Graduates will get ₹2,000, increased from ₹1,500
- Postgraduates will be given ₹3,500, a rise from ₹3,000.
This hike is expected to benefit approximately 2.61 million young people in Haryana. CM Saini also introduced a portal named "Har Ghar-Har Grihini" (Every Home-Every Housewife). This platform will enable 50 million BPL (Below Poverty Line) families to purchase gas cylinders for just ₹500. If the cylinder's actual cost is higher, the government will refund the difference to people's bank accounts monthly.
New initiatives to enhance youth skills and independence were launched, including the IT Saksham Yuva Scheme and the Contractor Saksham Yuva Scheme. The Namo Drone Didi Scheme was also officially implemented in Haryana.
For academic achievers, the government will provide ₹1,11,000 to students scoring over 90% marks. CM Saini highlighted that this is Haryana's first instance of merit-based government job allocation, contributing to building a stronger state.
These announcements come at a crucial time before the assembly elections. By offering these benefits, the BJP government aims to garner support from 46 million families in Haryana. The measures target unemployed youth, economically weaker families, and students, potentially influencing the upcoming election outcomes.
The comprehensive approach, addressing unemployment, household expenses, and education, demonstrates the government's effort to appeal to a wide range of voters. As the election nears, these welfare schemes could play a significant role in shaping public opinion and voting preferences in Haryana.
