The presentation of the 2024 Union Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has elicited a wide range of responses from politicians and citizens in Haryana. As the dust settles on the financial roadmap for the coming year, stakeholders across the state are analyzing its potential impact on various sectors and demographic groups.

Government Officials Laud Development Focus

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took to social media platform X to commend the budget, calling it a "milestone in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India." Saini praised the budget for its balanced approach, highlighting its focus on poverty alleviation, middle-class expectations, and overall development.

Union Minister Manohar Lal echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the budget's provisions for urban development. He noted that 14 major cities with populations exceeding 30 lakhs would benefit from new transportation development plans. Additionally, Lal pointed out that 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families would be covered under the PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 scheme.

Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal expressed enthusiasm for the budget's emphasis on skill development, education, and employment, suggesting a positive outlook for the state's youth.

Opposition Voices Concerns and Criticisms

However, not all reactions to the budget were positive. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala criticized the budget for neglecting farmers' interests. He described the provisions for youth as mere "trinkets," arguing that the budget failed to provide a roadmap for new employment opportunities.

MP Kumari Selja expressed disappointment, stating that the budget had once again overlooked the dreams of youth, the hopes of women, and the needs of the middle class. She questioned how long the country would have to wait for meaningful change.

Deepender Singh Hooda, another opposition figure, called the budget "completely disappointing." He pointedly remarked that while the government had forgotten to mention Haryana in the Union Budget, the people of Haryana would forget to vote for the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections.

Mixed Reactions from Citizen Groups

The budget's reception among various citizen groups in Haryana has been largely tepid. Bajrang Garg, the National Chief General Secretary of the All India Trade Board, voiced the disappointment of traders across the state and country. Garg lamented the lack of GST rate reductions or incentives to boost trade and industry. He criticized the budget as merely a "game of numbers," failing to provide the expected relief to the business community.

Farmers in Haryana also expressed dissatisfaction with the budget provisions. While the Finance Minister mentioned several schemes for agriculture, including promotion of natural farming and expansion of agricultural credit, many farmers felt these measures fell short of addressing their core concerns. The primary demand for a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) remained unaddressed, leading to skepticism about the real impact of the proposed agricultural initiatives.

Looking Ahead: Implications for Haryana

As Haryana gears up for assembly elections in the coming months, the budget's reception could play a significant role in shaping political narratives. The government's emphasis on urban development and skill enhancement may resonate with some segments of the population. However, the perceived lack of substantial benefits for farmers and small businesses could pose challenges for the ruling party.

The coming weeks are likely to see further analysis and debate on the budget's provisions and their potential impact on Haryana's economy and citizens. As implementation begins, the true effects of these financial allocations and policy directions will become clearer, potentially influencing both the economic landscape and political dynamics of the state.

In conclusion, while the 2024 Union Budget has been hailed as a step towards development by government officials, it has also faced criticism for not meeting the expectations of various stakeholder groups in Haryana. As the state moves forward, the budget's actual impact on growth, employment, and overall well-being of its citizens remains to be seen.
