Haryana's Map Set to Change: New Districts on the Horizon

State Government Mulls Creation of 23rd District and Beyond, Eyeing Political Gains Ahead of Assembly Elections

Representational Image

Haryana's political and administrative landscape may soon undergo a significant transformation as the state government contemplates the creation of new districts ahead of the October-November assembly elections. The BJP-led government is actively preparing to establish Hansi as the state's 23rd district, with the possibility of adding four more districts in the near future.

Hansi Takes the Lead

The government's primary focus is on elevating Hansi, currently a police district within Hisar, to full district status. The proposed Hansi district would incorporate Narnaund from Hisar and Bawani Khera from Bhiwani. A sub-committee, headed by Minister Kanwar Pal, has already conducted two meetings to assess Hansi's eligibility. The committee is set to hold a third meeting soon, after which it will submit its report to the government.

Four More Contenders in the Mix

Beyond Hansi, the government is also considering district status for four other areas:

  1. Dabwali in Sirsa
  2. Gohana in Sonipat
  3. Assandh in Karnal
  4. Manesar in Gurugram

These potential new districts have been topics of discussion in recent cabinet meetings, indicating the government's serious intent to reshape the state's administrative divisions.

Political Implications and Criteria

The creation of new districts is not just an administrative decision but also a political move. Chief Minister Nayab Saini has already expressed support for making Gohana a district, subject to meeting necessary criteria. The state has established specific parameters for district formation, including population size, number of villages, patwar circles, tehsils, sub-tehsils, and sub-divisions.

This redrawing of district boundaries could have significant implications for local governance and resource allocation. It may also influence voting patterns in the upcoming elections, as newly created districts often see increased political attention and development focus.

As the government moves forward with these plans, it will need to balance administrative efficiency with political considerations. The creation of new districts could potentially reshape Haryana's political landscape, making it a crucial decision for the BJP government as it prepares for the assembly elections.

The coming weeks will be critical as the sub-committee finalizes its recommendations and the government makes its decisions. Whatever the outcome, it's clear that Haryana's map – and perhaps its political future – is on the verge of significant change.
