Adamapur, a small town in Haryana, is witnessing a heated debate over its municipal status. The state government has initiated a survey to determine whether the town should retain its municipal status or be downgraded to a gram panchayat. The move has sparked a fierce debate among residents, with some supporting the change and others vehemently opposing it.

The survey, which will gather opinions from over 5,000 residents, is being conducted in accordance with the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1973. The government claims that the move is aimed at gauging public opinion and ensuring that the decision is not challenged in court. However, opponents of the move allege that the government is trying to bypass the legal process and push through its decision without adequate consultation.

Kuldeep Bishnoi, a prominent leader in the area, has found himself at the center of the controversy. His supporters claim that he has been instrumental in pushing for the survey, while opponents accuse him of trying to appease the government. Bishnoi has maintained that the survey is a legal requirement and that he is only trying to ensure that the government follows due process.

The controversy has drawn parallels with the fate of Sisai village, which was downgraded from a municipal status to a gram panchayat two years ago. In that instance, a survey was also conducted, and the majority of residents had voted in favor of the change. However, opponents of the move had alleged that the survey was flawed and that the government had ignored their concerns.

As the survey in Adamapur continues, it remains to be seen how the controversy will unfold. One thing is certain, however - the fate of Adamapur's municipal status hangs in the balance, and the outcome will have far-reaching implications for the town's residents.
