Haryana Student Killed in Stabbing Incident in Australia

A young Indian student from Karnal, Haryana, named Navjeet Sandhu, aged 22, was badly stabbed during a clash between a group of Indian students in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday evening. The devastating incident has left Navjeet's family shocked and seeking the government's help to transport their son's body back home, as the community mourns the untimely demise of a promising life.

According to Navjeet's uncle, Yashvir, an Army personnel soon to retire, the incident occurred when Navjeet accompanied his friend to collect belongings from the latter's residence. While the friend went inside, Navjeet witnessed a fight between some Indian students, allegedly over a rent dispute. When Navjeet tried to intervene and stop the fight, he was tragically stabbed in the chest with a knife.

Yashvir revealed that the alleged perpetrator of the crime also hails from Karnal, Haryana, like Navjeet. The family received the devastating news early on Sunday morning, leaving them shattered by the sudden loss of their brilliant son. 

Navjeet's friend, who he had accompanied, also suffered injuries during the altercation, adding to the family's anguish. Expressing profound grief, Yashvir described Navjeet as an exceptional student with a bright future ahead. He was scheduled to join his family in July for a vacation after completing his MTech studies in Australia, where he had been on a student visa for the past one-and-a-half years. 

Yashvir shared that Navjeet's father, a farmer in Haryana, had sold one-and-a-half acres of their land to fund his son's education, highlighting the family's sacrifices and aspirations for their child's future.

As the Haryana community in Australia and back home mourns the senseless loss, Navjeet's family has urgently appealed to the Government of India for assistance in bringing their son's body back. They seek support during this heart-wrenching time as they prepare to bid farewell to their beloved son.
