Haryana Assembly Admits No-Confidence Motion Against Khattar Government

The Haryana Budget session commenced on Tuesday with a tumultuous beginning as former CM and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda tabled a no-confidence motion against the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government. Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta approved the motion, scheduling it for debate on February 22.

The admission of the no-confidence motion follows scathing criticism from the Congress regarding the Khattar government's alleged failures across various fronts. Hooda's accusation of governance lapses set the stage for a contentious session, where the opposition seeks to hold the ruling coalition accountable for its performance. 

This move marks the second attempt by the Congress to bring a no-confidence motion against the BJP-JJP government in Haryana, echoing a similar effort made three years ago. Khattar, responding to the challenge, welcomed the motion, suggesting that it would provide an opportunity to highlight the government's achievements amidst opposition scrutiny.

The assembly session also witnessed discussions on security arrangements amidst the ongoing farmers' agitation, with the Speaker emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance. Stringent measures were implemented, including digital issuance of entry passes and enhanced screening procedures, to ensure the safety of lawmakers and staff.

Additionally, restrictions were imposed on entry into the legislative premises, with only essential personnel permitted access. Security personnel were deployed to monitor the situation, with strict directives issued to prevent any disruptions or untoward incidents during the session.

The budget session, slated to run until February 28, will feature deliberations on various agenda items, including the Governor's Address, budget proposals, and legislative business. Notably, the session commenced with Governor Bandaru Dattatreya's address, followed by a temporary adjournment to facilitate discussions.

Subsequent sessions will focus on detailed scrutiny of budget estimates, committee reports, and discussions on key policy matters. The participation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala, and other senior officials underscores the significance of this session in shaping the state's governance agenda.

As the assembly convenes to address critical issues facing Haryana, including agricultural reforms and socio-economic development, all eyes are on the outcome of the no-confidence motion debate and its implications for the political landscape. The session's trajectory will determine the course of governance and opposition dynamics in the state for the foreseeable future.
