Haryana Grapples with Intense Cold Wave, Red Alert Issued for 4 Districts

Representative Picture

Haryana is currently reeling under an intense cold wave, with no respite from biting cold temperatures. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for four districts – Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Karnal – due to dense fog and a cold wave persisting for seven consecutive days. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for 10 other districts, advising people to take precautions. The state has experienced a record-breaking 22 days of extreme cold so far, creating unfavourable conditions.

Visibility has dropped to around 25 meters in most districts, and a thick blanket of fog continues to envelop the region. The Meteorological Department predicts that dense fog will persist until January 18. The extended duration of the cold days this year is unusual, as typically, cold days are recorded only in the first week of January. The thick fog is contributing to the prolonged cold spell, and relief is expected only after the dissipation of the fog.

The advisories urge people to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to navigate through the challenging weather conditions. The situation is exacerbated by the lack of any significant change in temperature, with the cold spell continuing unabated. While the western disturbances are not active, impacting weather activities, Haryana has been grappling with dry conditions for the past 46 days.

The Meteorological Department has indicated that there is currently no relief in sight, and the state might have to endure the harsh winter conditions for the foreseeable future. Haryana, accustomed to winter chill, faces an extended period of severe cold and reduced visibility, making it imperative for residents to stay cautious and prepared until weather conditions improve.
