A major concern has emerged over the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Haryana, with over ₹400 crore in payments reportedly pending to empanelled hospitals.
The Indian Medical Association Haryana unit has written to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging immediate intervention to address delays that are impacting both hospitals and patient care.
IMA Haryana president Dr Sunila Soni stated that claims under the scheme are supposed to be settled within 15 days. However, payments dating back to September 2025 are still pending, creating serious financial pressure on hospitals.
Despite funds reportedly being released by the Finance Department in November, the association claims procedural delays have stalled actual disbursement. Even after clearing queries raised on claims, hospitals are yet to receive payments.
Adding to the concern, Dr Yogesh Jindal pointed out that the absence of a full-time CEO at the Haryana Health Protection Authority has led to decision-making delays and administrative bottlenecks.
The association also flagged that key committees — including empanelment and grievance redressal bodies — approved earlier have not been operationalised. As a result, new hospital empanelments and approvals for specialised treatments have been affected.
Dr Ajay Mahajan said no meetings of these committees have been held in the past five months, further deepening the crisis. Private hospitals under the scheme are now struggling to manage operational costs due to delayed reimbursements, raising concerns about the sustainability of services offered to patients under Ayushman Bharat.
The IMA has called for urgent steps, including clearing pending dues, appointing a full-time CEO, and activating key committees to restore smooth functioning of the scheme.
