Police in Gurugram have registered an FIR against a real estate developer and its construction contractor after seven labourers lost their lives in a wall collapse at a construction site in Sidhravali village.

The case has been filed against Signature Global, contractor Balaji Construction Company, contractor Deendayal Sharma alias DD Sharma, project incharge Dineshveer, structural incharge Vikas Pandey and the site’s safety officer for alleged negligence leading to the deaths.

The incident occurred late Monday night during excavation work for a Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at the Signature Global City of Colours project. Officials said a large portion of soil suddenly collapsed into a nearly 40-foot-deep pit where labourers were working.

Around 22 workers were present at the site when the accident happened. Eleven of them were trapped under the debris while others narrowly escaped. Rescue teams from the police, fire services and disaster response units rushed to the spot and began an emergency operation.

Seven labourers died in the incident, while four injured workers were rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The FIR was registered at the Bilaspur police station based on a complaint filed by the brother of one of the deceased workers. In response to the incident, Signature Global said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy and had initiated an internal review. The company stated that negligence by the contractor is the main reason for the incident.

The developer has issued a show-cause notice to the contractor and ordered an independent inquiry into the accident. As an interim measure, three project personnel have been suspended. The company also said it was providing financial and medical assistance to the affected workers and their families.

Meanwhile, Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar has ordered a separate administrative probe. A committee headed by Darshan Yadav has been constituted to investigate the incident.= The panel has been asked to examine all aspects of the accident and submit its findings within a specified timeframe, the panel includes officials from police, then planning and public works department.
