A tragic accident at a construction site in Gurugram claimed the lives of seven workers after an under-construction wall collapsed late Monday evening. The incident occurred at a residential project being developed by Signature Global in Sidhrawali village.
According to officials, around 12 to 15 labourers were working near a Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) inside the construction site when the wall suddenly gave way. The collapse caused a large amount of debris and soil to fall, trapping several workers underneath.
Fellow labourers and nearby passersby rushed to help and began pulling out the trapped workers using their hands before emergency teams arrived. Soon after, rescue teams from the police, fire brigade and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and launched a full-scale rescue operation.
Authorities confirmed that the bodies of seven workers were recovered from the debris during the operation. Five other injured workers were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The officials added that the rescue process took a few hours to avoid any possible injury of others who might have been trapped under the debris of the collapsed wall. The condition of the injured workers is under close observation.
An investigation has been launched by the administration to find out the actual reason for the collapse of the wall and also to ensure that the safety measures were followed at the construction site.
No statement has been issued so far from the developer regarding the incident. The tragedy has once again highlighted the need for proper construction safety measures and the protection of workers at such large-scale projects.
