Hansi Police on Thursday produced the arrested chairman of Khushi College of Nursing before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody till further orders, as the investigation into serious allegations by girl students gathered pace.
According to Haryana Police, the accused chairman, Jagdish Goswami, was arrested following complaints by students of the nursing college located in Kagsar village of Narnaund subdivision, Hisar district. After his arrest, police also took him to the college premises to identify the alleged crime spots as part of the investigation.
Police officials said that provisions of the SC/ST Act have been added to the FIR in view of the allegations and the social background of the complainants. Following the arrest and court action, the protesting students called off their dharna late Wednesday night, stating that their key demands had been met.
Allegations and FIR details
The FIR has been registered against the chairman, his son, and his wife under Sections 75(2), 79, and 3(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have so far recorded statements of eight to nine students.
In her statement, one student alleged that while she was heading towards the mess, the chairman allegedly called her, took her to a bathroom, molested her and attempted to remove her clothes. Another student alleged that she was summoned to a room and forced to massage his feet.
Police officials said further investigation is underway, and additional statements and evidence are being examined to establish the sequence of events and the extent of involvement of other accused named in the FIR.
The case has triggered concern in the region, with authorities stating that strict action will be taken if the allegations are substantiated, and that student safety in educational institutions will be treated as a priority.
