In a significant decision aimed at restoring cultural dignity and historical identity, the Haryana government has officially renamed Chuhar Majra village in Kaithal district as Brahmanand Majra. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during a state-level programme organised in the village.
The Chief Minister said the proposal to change the village’s name was sent by the gram panchayat committee, which was subsequently approved by the state government. With immediate effect, the village will now be known as Brahmanand Majra, and all government records will be updated accordingly.
Saini said the village is the birthplace of Jagadguru Brahmanand, and renaming it in his honour is a mark of respect to his legacy. Locals had long felt uncomfortable with the earlier name, which many believed did not reflect the village’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The new name restores pride and historical recognition.
Development Announcements for the Village
Along with the renaming, the Chief Minister announced a series of development initiatives for Brahmanand Majra. He declared a grant of ₹51 lakh for the overall development of the village. A library in the name of Guru Brahmanand will also be established to promote education among the youth.
Additionally, ₹21 lakh has been sanctioned for developing the village’s main entrance gate in Guru Brahmanand’s name. The Ahir–Kuran Israna Chowk will also be renamed after Guru Brahmanand and developed with an allocation of ₹30 lakh. The Dhand–Pundri road will similarly be named in his honour.
The Chief Minister further announced that a coaching centre in the name of Guru Brahmanand will be set up in Gurugram, for which land will be provided as per rules.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The announcement was made during the 118th birth anniversary celebrations of Jagadguru Brahmanand, organised at the state level. Several senior leaders were present, including Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Deputy Speaker Krishan Middha, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, MP Naveen Jindal, and Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa.
The renaming of Chuhar Majra to Brahmanand Majra is being seen as both a symbolic and substantive step—one that combines cultural recognition with tangible development for the village.
