Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday announced that Hansi will be declared the 23rd district of the state, with the official notification expected to be issued within a week. The new district will be carved out of Hisar, making Hansi the fourth district formed from the original Hisar region, after Sirsa, Bhiwani and Fatehabad.

The announcement was made during a ‘Vikas rally’ held in Hansi. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister termed the move a major administrative milestone and said it would bring governance closer to the people while accelerating regional development. Notably, Hansi has already been functioning as a separate police district since November 2016.

During the event, CM Saini also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for three development projects worth ₹77.30 crore. Emphasising Hansi’s historical importance, he described the town as a land of valour and sacrifice, once known as the gateway of Hindustan. He recalled the sacrifices made during the First War of Independence in 1857, stating that the historic Lal Sadak still stands as a reminder of British atrocities against freedom fighters.

Tracing its older legacy, the Chief Minister noted that Hansi was earlier known as Asi and Asigarh, and during the reign of Emperor Harsha, it served as the capital of the Sutlej province.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to balanced development, Saini said projects worth ₹1,008 crore had been implemented in the Hansi Assembly constituency over the last 11 years, compared to ₹253 crore during the Congress regime. He added that of the 217 promises made in the Sankalp Patra, 54 had been fulfilled within a year, while work on the remaining promises was underway.

On agriculture, the Chief Minister said all crops were being procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP). He stated that ₹1.64 lakh crore had been credited directly to nearly 12 lakh farmers, and over the past 11 years, farmers received ₹15,448 crore as compensation under crop damage relief and the PM Fasal Bima Yojana.

Rejecting Congress allegations of “vote theft”, Saini said electoral roll revisions were a constitutional process carried out repeatedly since Independence. Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa and Hansi MLA Vinod Bhayana welcomed the announcement, calling the district status a historic gift for the region.
