In a major boost to women’s participation in law enforcement, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced the recruitment of 950 women police personnel in the state. The move is part of the government’s broader plan to increase women’s representation in the Haryana Police from the existing 15 percent to 25 percent.
The Chief Minister made this announcement while chairing a state-level security conference on the theme “Viksit Bharat – Security Dimension” in Panchkula on Monday. He said that strengthening women’s presence in the police force is essential for effective policing, public trust, and handling crimes involving women and children.
CM Saini informed that the recruitment process for 5,750 police personnel is currently underway, of which 950 posts are reserved for women. Additionally, the state government has approved the selection of 550 more female constables. This clearly reflects the commitment of the state government to gender balance in policing.
Emphasizing the point of modernization, the Chief Minister asserted, "The police force also has to modernize itself with the latest technology to effectively combat new-age crime." The Chief Minister ordered officials to make sure that crime-sensitive areas in the state have CCTV cameras installed.
Analyzing the performance of Haryana Police, Chief Minister Saini stated that the police have been registering good success against inter-state criminal gangs, drug abusers, and the ‘cyber अपराध networks.’ In this regard, the success of Operation Hotspot Domination cannot go unmentioned since over 2,000 criminals were arrested within only 12 days. On the other hand, Operation Track Town resulted in the arrest of ‘7,587 offenders.’
The Chief Minister also disclosed that illicit assets worth ₹168 crore have been seized during these operations, which clearly shows that a tough stand is being taken against organized gangs and illicit business activities.
The recruitment of a massive number of female police personnel has been considered a major move towards achieving the goals of inclusive governance and a strong internal security structure in the state. The Haryana Government is expected to make the law and order situation even better with upgraded technology.
