Panipat police have arrested a woman who confessed to murdering four children, including her own three-year-old son, over a two-year period. The 32-year-old accused, identified as a "psycho-killer" by police, harbored hatred toward attractive children, especially girls, and drowned them to make deaths appear natural.
Discovery of Latest Victim
The case unraveled when six-year-old Vidhi from Bhawar village went missing during a relative's wedding at Naultha village on December 1. When the child disappeared under suspicious circumstances, villagers launched a search and discovered her body in a water tub in a storeroom on the first floor of a house.
DSP (Crime Against Women) Naveen Sandhu, along with SHO Israna and forensic expert Dr. Neelam Arya, reached the spot. Evidence was collected and Israna police registered a murder case against an unknown person. The blind murder investigation initially offered few leads.
Breakthrough and Confession
SP Bhupender Singh stated the CIA-1 team, led by Inspector Phool Singh, obtained clues and arrested Poonam, the victim's aunt (chachi). During interrogation, she confessed to murdering Vidhi by drowning her in the tub.The investigation then uncovered a horrifying pattern. Poonam, originally from Sewah village, had married Navin of Bhawar village in 2019. She admitted to killing two children in 2023—nine-year-old Ishika, her sister-in-law's daughter, and her own three-year-old son Shubham—by drowning them in a water tank at her house.
Killing Own Son to Avoid Suspicion
In a chilling revelation, Poonam said that she killed her own son to avoid suspicion for Ishika's murder. That calculated decision epitomizes the extent of her psychopathic behavior-the prioritization of her criminal concealment over maternal instinct. She further admitted to killing six-year-old Jia, her cousin's daughter, at Sewah village in August 2025. The families had cremated all the children then, assuming it was an accidental death, thus allowing Poonam to continue her killing spree undetected.
Disturbing Psychological Profile
SP Singh further informs that Poonam confessed to feeling jealous of beautiful girls and derived satisfaction from killing them. This psychological profile shows a person deeply disturbed, whose envy of beautiful children, mainly girls, took the form of serial murder.
The deliberate choice of drowning allowed her to disguise murders as accidents, drawing on cultural assumptions about child safety around water and the tendency of families to accept tragic explanations rather than suspect foul play.
Legal Proceedings
Police have registered a separate case for Jia's murder, expanding the investigation to cover all four victims. The woman was produced in a local court, which sent her to judicial custody as authorities build comprehensive cases for each killing.
