In a shocking incident, a case of rape and financial fraud has come to light in Gurugram, in which a man is accused of raping a woman repeatedly after promising marriage, extorting Rs 15 lakh, and abandoning her in a guest house and fleeing. Sadar police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 316(2) and 69 based on the complaint of the victim.

Friendship Turned Exploitation

The 30-year-old victim, a native of Maharashtra, works in a private company here in Gurugram. In her police complaint, she mentioned that she met Sai Shashank Mucharela from Andhra Pradesh some time ago. During the course of their friendship, the accused raped her and then promised marriage when she resisted.

The complaint filed by the victim demonstrates how trust was systematically abused: first, their friendship became a relationship; then the accused abused this by promising marriage in order to continue the abuse and extract money.

Four-Day Ordeal

The accused took the woman to a guesthouse in Sector 38 and repeatedly raped her from November 17 to 20. During this period, he continued making marriage promises, besides manipulating her to transfer Rs 15 lakh online to his account.

The financial exploitation accompanied the act of sexual assault in that he took advantage of the victim emotionally and with expectations of marriage to make her transfer large sums of money. Both rape and financial fraud combined show that there was premeditation rather than acting on impulse.

Abandoned and Betrayed

After securing the money transfers, on November 20, the accused ran away from the guesthouse, leaving the victim all alone. This abandonment compelled her to realize the deception and approach police with her complaint.

The investigating officer confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation initiated. "Action will be taken based on evidence that emerges during investigation," the officer said.

Pattern of Exploitation

There have been an increasing number of recent cases involving marriage promises followed by rape and financial exploitation. A sense of trust between perpetrator and victim is established over time, before emotional, sexual, and financial exploitation takes place. The promise of marriage serves as a tool for coercion during assaults and as a justification for money transfers.

The police are now working to track the current location of the accused, recover the transferred funds, and collect evidence to support prosecution.
