Father-Son Shot Dead on Sonipat Flyover; Attackers Stalked Them for 4 Days with Rented Car

Double murder in Kharkhoda despite settlement; 21 empty cartridges recovered from crime scene

Father-Son Shot Dead on Sonipat Flyover in Kharkhoda

A brutal double murder shook Sonipat district Friday morning when attackers shot dead a father and son on Thana Kalan flyover in broad daylight, despite both families having reached a settlement over their water dispute. The assailants had rented a Scorpio four days earlier and continuously stalked their victims before executing the revenge killing.

The Attack

Around 10:30 am Friday, Dharambir was riding his Platina motorcycle to Sonipat court with his son Mohit when a black Scorpio (HR79E7331) rammed into their bike from behind on the flyover. Three armed men—Rahul son of Anil, Manish son of Naresh (from Hamayupur, currently Kharkhoda), and another youth—emerged from the vehicle and fired indiscriminately at the victims who had fallen from the flyover.

Both Dharambir and Mohit died on the spot from gunshot wounds. The attackers had been preparing for several days before executing their plan.

Elderly Father Witnessed Everything

Budhram, Dharambir's father and Mohit's grandfather, witnessed the entire incident. He was riding some distance behind his son and grandson, having gotten off earlier. Reaching the bottom of the flyover, he saw the three attackers descending from the Scorpio and opening fire.

In his statement to police, Budhram identified the attackers, stating that Rahul and Manish had visited their home multiple times for settlement discussions, so he recognized them clearly. He alleged that Rahul killed his son and grandson to avenge his brother Nitin's murder.

Old Rivalry Claimed Two Lives

The families had been feuding for years.Mohit's name had earlier appeared in Nitin, son of Jagandas, murder case, and there had been acrimony between both families. Rahul, Sunny alias Saanda, and Ankush had fired at Mohit on October 29, 2024. A case was filed at the Kharkhoda police station, but later both parties reconciled through panchayat and deposition was withdrawn before the court.

Despite this settlement, the attackers maintained their vendetta. According to information, Mohit's name had come up in Deepak Saini's murder case, and this killing was revenge for that incident.

Four Days of Stalking

The attackers had rented the Scorpio at Rs 1,300 per day on October 21 using Rahul's ID for self-driving. For four consecutive days, they circled the area waiting for the right opportunity. The meticulous planning demonstrated their determination to carry out the revenge killing regardless of the earlier settlement.

Crime Scene Investigation

Kharkhoda police station in-charge Inspector Devendra Singh rushed to the scene with police force upon receiving information. A large number of villagers also gathered. Police transported both victims to Sonipat Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

The FSL team, fingerprint experts, and motor mechanics examined the scene. Police recovered 21 empty cartridges, 2 live bullets, a blood-stained helmet, blood-soaked soil samples, and seized the attackers' Scorpio vehicle. The weapons used were pistols. The motorcycle lay crashed on the road where the attack occurred.

Five Teams Formed

Gopalpur village resident Budhram filed a complaint stating his son Dharambir and grandson Mohit were murdered in broad daylight near Pradhan Dhaba on Kharkhoda bypass. The bodies were sent from Sonipat to Khanpur Medical for post-mortem examination.

Kharkhoda police registered a case under Sections 103(1), 3(5), 61(2) BNS and 25-54-59 Arms Act. SHO Devendra Singh stated the incident was extremely serious and executed as a conspiracy. Five separate teams have been formed to search for the accused. Police are conducting raids to arrest Rahul, Manish, and their accomplices.

Security Heightened

The murder created a tense atmosphere throughout the area. Police immediately called additional forces and established checkpoints on the bypass and surrounding areas. CCTV footage from Sonipat to Bahalgarh and Kharkhoda Road is being examined.

Gopalpur Village is Mourning

A wave of grief has swept through Gopalpur village following the father-son deaths. Villagers describe Dharambir and Mohit as peaceful people killed due to old rivalry. The family home is filled with mourning. Elderly Budhram collapsed upon seeing his son's and grandson's bodies. Villagers are demanding immediate arrest and strict punishment for the accused.
