Haryana remains on high alert as the India Meteorological Department predicts continued heavy rainfall following significant downpours that submerged vast agricultural areas and disrupted normal life across multiple districts.
With 130 mm of heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, Sirsa emerged as the district most affected. Ambala (48.4mm), Panipat (33mm), Panchkula (57mm), and Mahendragarh (66mm) are other places that have been severely affected. The minimum temperature dropped by 0.7°C due to the widespread precipitation, with Hisar recording the lowest temperature at 22.7°C.
Karnal, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Panchkula, and Chandigarh have all received heavy rainfall warnings from IMD, which advises locals to be on the lookout for waterlogging in low-lying areas.
After several canal breaches and constant rains, the Hisar district's agricultural crisis worsened, with about 80,000 acres of farmland still under water. Operating at over 800 cusecs, exceeding its 500 cusec capacity, the Ghaggar multipurpose drain has frequently caused breaches that have impacted 20 villages in the Barwala subdivision. There were large breaches near Chuli Kalan-Shahpur villages, between Patan-Kaimri villages (500 acres flooded), and around Ladwa-Gangwa villages (800 acres submerged). In about ten villages, the overflow has reached residential areas, uprooting families and destroying standing crops.
Congress MP Jai Prakash, after surveying affected areas, demanded immediate government compensation of Rs 1 lakh per acre for farmers facing complete crop destruction. Hisar has already recorded 507.8mm rainfall this monsoon season, 54% above normal levels.
The situation remains critical as agricultural communities await government relief measures while battling unprecedented flood-like conditions.
