The gruesome murder of 19-year-old teacher Manisha in Bhiwani has sent shockwaves across Haryana, exposing serious lapses in police response and investigation procedures. Her family's allegations paint a disturbing picture of brutality and official negligence that has sparked widespread outrage.
Manisha, who taught at a play school in Singhani village, disappeared on August 11 after visiting a nearby nursing college to inquire about admission. Despite immediate concerns from her family, the Emergency Response Vehicle team dismissed their pleas and suggested filing a report at the station instead.
The family's ordeal worsened at Loharu police station, where officers allegedly made inappropriate comments about Manisha rather than taking swift action. A missing person report was filed only the next day, precious hours lost in the critical initial phase.
Body Discovered on Aug 13
When Manisha's body was discovered near a canal on August 13, the horrific details emerged. Her face had been burned with acid, clothes were torn, and her throat was slit with a sharp weapon. The post-mortem revealed missing organs and eyes, though sexual assault couldn't be confirmed due to the body's decomposed state.
CM Suspended Police Officials
Chief Minister Nayab Saini responded decisively to the public anger. SP Manbir Singh was transferred immediately, while SHO Ashok Kumar was placed on duty suspension. Four personnel, including woman ASI Shakuntala and the ERV team members, faced suspension for dereliction of duty.
The case has united communities across the region. Highway blockades, market shutdowns, and candlelight marches have become daily occurrences. Opposition leaders and social activists have joined the family's demand for swift justice.
No Arrests Made Till Now
Despite forming six investigation teams and appointing new SP Sumit Kumar, police haven't made any arrests after five days. The family's refusal to claim the body until the perpetrators are caught reflects their loss of faith in the system.
This tragedy highlights urgent reforms needed in how police handle cases involving women's safety and missing person reports.
