A shocking murder case has emerged in Faridabad where a woman was allegedly killed and buried by her in-laws, who successfully concealed the crime for nearly two months by reporting her as missing.
The victim, Tannu Kumar, belonged to Shikohabad in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district and had married Arun Singh of Roshan Nagar area in Faridabad two years ago. The case came to light when her father's persistent complaints about suspicious activities at his daughter's in-laws' house led to the discovery of her body.
According to police investigations, on April 23, Arun Singh and his father Bhoop Singh arranged for an earthmover to dig a 10-foot deep pit in the street directly in front of their house. The following day, they hired a mason to fill the excavated hole. Two days later, they approached local police to file a missing person report, claiming Tannu had disappeared and describing her as mentally challenged.
Hakim, Tannu's father, alleged that his daughter faced continuous dowry harassment from her in-laws. The harassment was so severe that she had to remain at her parental home for an entire year after marriage. She returned to Faridabad only after panchayat intervention, but the problems persisted. When informed about his daughter's disappearance, Hakim visited the in-laws' residence with his other daughter, Preeti. He immediately became suspicious upon observing the freshly covered pit outside their house. Despite making multiple visits to the local police station, officers initially refused to investigate his concerns.
Police finally took action last week and excavated the pit on Friday morning in the presence of Naib Tehsildar Jaswant Singh. Tannu's body was successfully exhumed from the location.
Four family members have been booked at Palla Police Station: Bhoop Singh (originally from Mainpuri, UP), his wife Sonia, son Arun Singh, and daughter Kajal. Police sources confirm that Bhoop Singh and Arun Singh are currently in custody for interrogation. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused family members.
