The Haryana administration has introduced comprehensive welfare measures for retired judicial officers through newly notified benefit rules announced on Friday. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi issued the notification establishing the Retired Chief Justices and Judges Domestic Help(s) and other Benefits Rules, 2025.

Under these regulations, former chief justices of Punjab and Haryana High Court will receive Rs 50,000 monthly, while retired judges are entitled to Rs 45,000 per month. These amounts are designated for domestic help and drivers. The benefits extend to spouses of deceased judicial officers, ensuring continued support for families.

The financial package includes an additional Rs 15,000 monthly allowance covering various essential services. This supplementary amount addresses rental costs for mobile phones and landlines, internet connectivity, secretarial assistance, and security arrangements.

The rules incorporate specific eligibility criteria to prevent duplicate benefits. Recipients cannot simultaneously avail similar facilities from other High Courts. Additionally, those holding active appointments or assignments providing comparable benefits are temporarily ineligible during their tenure.

A notable provision allows retired judicial officers to request secondment of High Court employees. They may engage up to two staff members from the court's Last Grade Service, including one driver. However, utilizing seconded employees reduces the monetary reimbursement proportionally – full reduction for two employees or fifty percent reduction for one employee.

The arrangement requires written consent from High Court employees and approval from the Chief Justice, subject to staff availability. Seconded employees continue serving until superannuation or until the retired officer's benefit eligibility expires.
