Homebuyers who invested their earnings in Mahira projects have expressed their concern with the arrest of former Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker in a money laundering case of Rs 1,500 Crore. They emphasized that the legal action does nothing to address their immediate concerns of homelessness and uncertanity.
"We are homeless and expect authorities and the government to take steps to give us our promised homes," stated a collective of homebuyers in a recent statement. Their primary demand is for the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA) to intervene and facilitate the resumption of construction on the stalled Mahira 68 project.
The investors, many of whom purchased units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana government housing scheme, feel abandoned by the very institutions they trusted. "We placed our trust in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, DTCP, and HRERA, so we are their responsibility. However, we now find ourselves without support or guidance," they lamented.
The homebuyers are particularly concerned that regulatory actions like license cancellation or indefinitely suspending the project will only exacerbate their problems rather than solve them. "The cancellation of the licence or placing the project on indefinite hold does not serve the interests of genuine buyers and only deepens our uncertainty and hardship," the statement continued.
According to the buyers' representatives, approximately 800 flats in the Mahira 68 project are nearly complete and could potentially be ready for handover within six months with proper intervention. They believe the entire development could be completed in just 18 months if given adequate administrative support and direction. "We seek a constructive solution that prioritises the homebuyers' rights and aspirations," the homebuyers concluded, clearly indicating their preference for practical solutions over punitive measures against the developer.
