The Haryana government has taken a significant step to benefit the tourism sector by extending the validity period of All India Tourist Permits. Transport Minister Anil Vij announced that the state has decided to increase the permit validity from 9 years to 12 years, aligning with central government guidelines.

"We have received approval from Chief Minister on Monday for this proposal that will greatly benefit those working in the tourism sector," Vij stated. "A formal notification regarding this extension will be issued shortly to ensure that tourist operators do not face any difficulties."

This decision comes in response to recent representations from taxi operator unions who had submitted a petition requesting uniformity in tourist permit validity periods. Following these requests, the Transport Department, under Minister Vij's direction, prepared and submitted a proposal to the government which received approval on Monday.

The revised guidelines specify different validity periods based on vehicle type and operational area. For vehicles operating in the National Capital Region (NCR), petrol and CNG vehicles will now enjoy an extended validity period of 12 years from the date of registration, up from the previous 9 years. Diesel vehicles in the NCR will see their permit validity increased from 9 to 10 years.

For vehicles operating outside the NCR, both petrol/CNG and diesel vehicles will now have a unified permit validity of 12 years, increased from the previous 9-year period.

This extension is expected to provide significant relief to tourist vehicle operators by reducing the frequency of permit renewals and associated costs. Industry experts believe this move will help stabilize the tourism transportation sector and encourage more investment in quality tourist vehicles.

The Transport Department is expected to release detailed implementation guidelines in the coming days, clarifying the application process for existing permit holders who wish to benefit from the extended validity period.
