In a disturbing case from Haryana's Jind district, police have arrested four individuals accused of assaulting a woman and her 5-year-old daughter, resulting in the child's death. The arrests include three adults identified as Shiva, Biru, and Hameed Khan, along with one juvenile offender.

According to ASP Sonakshi Singh, the incident occurred on April 21 in Tapriwas Colony. The mother filed a complaint on April 24 at Rohtak Road police post in Jind, stating that her neighbors Biru, Shiva, Hameed, and a minor boy had attacked her, after which she lost consciousness.

When she regained consciousness the next morning, she discovered her daughter was unresponsive and not speaking. The child had blood coming from her mouth and visible injury marks on her neck. Believing it to be a natural death, the family buried the child's body at a cremation ground without informing authorities.

Upon receiving the complaint, police immediately took serious action. Under the supervision of a duty magistrate, they exhumed the child's body from the cremation ground and conducted a postmortem examination at PGI Khanpur. The autopsy confirmed the assault on the child.

Police arrested the accused Hameed Khan (46), Shiva (18), and Biru (18) near a canal bridge at Ikkas bypass. The suspects underwent medical examination and were presented in court, where police secured one-day remand for further investigation. Officials have recovered a blanket used in the crime after the accused identified the scene of the incident.

The case has been registered at Jind City Police Station under case number 144 dated April 24, 2025, under sections 70(1), 103(1), 115(2), 3(5) of the BNS.

According to police reports, the incident was triggered by an argument between the woman, who works as a ragpicker, and the group of men who were consuming alcohol near her dwelling. After the altercation, during which she allegedly used a derogatory term toward Khan, he dragged her to a garbage dump near railway tracks. Hearing her mother's cries, the five-year-old followed them.

The accused allegedly trapped the child in a blanket while taking turns assaulting her. When she screamed and struggled, they reportedly smothered her by pressing on her mouth and neck, resulting in her death. The mother was also assaulted and left unconscious.

The 13-year-old accused has been sent to a juvenile correctional facility, while the three adult suspects remain in police custody. Officials report that the survivor is currently receiving medical care and is in stable condition.
