The Haryana government has announced plans to cancel more than 3.25 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards due to non-utilization of benefits. According to sources, these cardholders have not availed of ration or any government scheme benefits for several months, raising questions about their eligibility.
The decision will streamline the distribution process for various benefits and will further ensure only genuine beneficiaries will receive government assistance.
The Haryana government will cancel cards of those who do not fulfill the eligibility criteria from May 1.
As of March 1, there were 51,97,984 BPL cards in Haryana, which reduced to 51,96,380 by April 1, with a decrease of only 1,604 cards in a month.
The main concern for the government is the huge number of inactive cards and this move will eliminate the fake beneficiaries.
In a recent event, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has also announced to release social security pensions to the genuine beneficiaries including new pensioners. This move is expected to provide relief to those who have been waiting for their pensions due to various reasons.
