Swati Phogat Cracks UPSC with AIR 306: A Village Girl's Journey to Success

From Dreaming of Flying Planes to Civil Services: Charkhi Dadri's Daughter Succeeds in Second Attempt

Swati Phogat from Modi village in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri has secured 306th rank in UPSC Examination. It was Swati's second attempt in UPSC CSE. Swati 's Journey form a small village in Haryana to civil services success is an inspiration for many aspirants. "As a child, I dreamed of flying airplanes in the sky," reveals Swati, who later found inspiration to serve the nation from her family.

With focused preparation and hard work, she achieved her UPSC goal while simultaneously pursuing her PhD from Rajasthan. Her academic journey began in her village, continued at Rai Sports School, and included graduating with Geography Honours from Delhi's Kamala Nehru College before completing her MSc and qualifying NET and JRF examinations. 

Family Background 

Swati's father Ramesh Phogat, a retired DPE (Physical Education teacher), and mother Sudesh Devi have emphasized creating the right environment for children to excel. Her younger brother Jatin is currently studying MBBS at Nalhar College, Nuh. Upon her return to the village, celebrations erupted with sweets distribution, while local MLAs Sunil Sangwan and Umed Patuwas honored her achievement.

"Girls can excel in any field," asserts Swati, who plans to focus on education and sports for girls if given the opportunity. Her message to youth: "Hard work never goes to waste, and success will surely follow." Her mother adds, "Don't underestimate daughters – they're bringing glory to our nation."
