Operation Theatre Technician Arrested for Air Hostess Sexual Assault at Medanta Hospital

Gurugram police have arrested a 25-year-old hospital technician for allegedly sexually assaulting a 46-year-old air hostess who was on ventilator support in Medanta Hospital's ICU. The accused, identified as Deepak from Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, had been working at the prestigious hospital for five months as a treatment machine technician.

According to DCP Dr. Arpit Jain, who led the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the breakthrough came after an extensive investigation that included questioning over 50 hospital employees and doctors and reviewing footage from approximately 800 CCTV cameras. "After multiple analyses at the micro level, using both human and technical intelligence, we identified and apprehended the suspect from the Sadar police station area," said the DCP, adding that the accused has confessed to the crime.

During preliminary interrogation, the unmarried technician revealed he was addicted to pornographic videos. He holds a BSc degree in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT). The victim, an air hostess who was admitted to the hospital on April 5, alleged she was assaulted while on ventilator support the following day. She claimed two nurses were present but did nothing to prevent the assault. After being discharged on April 13, she informed her husband and filed a police complaint, leading to a case under Sections 64 (rape) and 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority) of the BNS.

The arrest comes just one day after Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora formed the SIT to investigate this disturbing case that has raised serious concerns about patient safety in medical facilities.
