In a disturbing Incident from Gurugram, a female air hostess from Kolkata has come forward demanding strict action against Medanta Hospital staff after being sexually assaulted while under ventilator support.
The complaint registered by the victim contains shocking details about the incident. According to her statement, she was admitted to the hospital by her husband around 10 PM on April 5 and placed on ventilator support in the ICU on the second floor. The next evening, around 9 PM on April 6, the victim recalls being in a semi-conscious state when two nurses were changing her clothes and bed sheets. During this time, she heard a male voice entering the room. Though partially conscious, she was unable to communicate or move as she had a ventilator tube in her mouth and her limbs were restrained.
"I heard that the man asked the sister about the size of my waistband and said he will check it himself," her statement reads. She then describes how the individual inappropriately touched her under the sheet while claiming to take measurements. Perhaps most troubling in the account is what allegedly happened afterward. The victim states that shortly after the man left, a nurse noticed blood on the bedsheet—despite it having just been changed. According to the complaint, another nurse dismissed this, suggesting it might be menstruation, but appeared "afraid and did not tell anyone anything."
The victim remained silent about the assault out of fear while still in the hospital's care. She was removed from ventilator support on April 8 and later discharged on April 13. Only after returning to her hotel with her husband and resting did she disclose the traumatic experience.
"After that I took medicine and slept. On the next day, I told this to my husband and he dialled 112 and called the police," her statement continues. "This is very wrong what happened to me during my treatment in the hospital and I want strict action against the hospital staff."
Gurugram police are actively investigating the case but have yet to identify the perpetrator. "The police team is examining the footage of the hospital's CCTV cameras and trying to identify the accused'', said a police spokesperson.
This case raises serious concerns about patient safety and security protocols in healthcare settings, particularly for vulnerable patients who are sedated or otherwise unable to protect themselves.
