PM Modi Inaugurates Power Projects in Yamunanagar After Hisar Airport Launch

Lays foundation stone for 800 MW thermal power plant and compressed biogas facility; criticizes Congress while highlighting government's energy initiatives on Ambedkar Jayanti.

Prime Minister Modi Inaugurated an 800 MW Thermal Power Unit and Biogas plant in YamunaNagar

After inaugurating Haryana's first airport in Hisar earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to Yamunanagar where he laid the foundation stone for an 800 MW thermal power plant unit and a compressed biogas plant. He also inaugurated the Rewari bypass built at a cost of ₹1,070 crore, which has reduced travel time to Narnaul by one hour.

Speaking at the event, Modi emphasized his government's focus on energy self-sufficiency. "Between 2014 and today, India has nearly doubled its electricity generation capacity," the Prime Minister said. "When Congress was in power, the country experienced nationwide blackouts. If they had remained in power, we would still be facing such crises today."

The Prime Minister highlighted India's transformation from an energy-deficient nation to one that now exports electricity to neighboring countries. "Today, Haryana produces 16,000 MW of electricity, and we are working toward a target of 24,000 MW," he stated. Modi also praised Yamunanagar's industrial significance, noting that the city produces half of India's plywood and supplies petrochemical plant equipment to several countries worldwide. "Enhanced energy infrastructure will greatly benefit local industries," he added.

Addressing the gathering on Ambedkar Jayanti, Modi connected the power projects to Dr. Ambedkar's vision. "Babasaheb recognized the importance of industrial development for social justice. He understood that Dalits with insufficient agricultural land would benefit from industrial growth," he said.

The Prime Minister also promoted the government's PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana, encouraging residents to install solar panels. "You can reduce your electricity bills to zero and even earn by selling surplus power," he said, noting that thousands of Haryana residents had already applied for the scheme.

Chief Minister Nayab Saini, who was present at the event, highlighted the state's progress in providing 24-hour electricity to over 5,000 villages, promising to extend this service to remaining villages soon. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also addressed the gathering, emphasizing Yamunanagar's importance as an energy hub.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister had inaugurated Haryana's first airport in Hisar, where he flagged off the inaugural flight to Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone for a new terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport.
