Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Haryana's first commercial airport in Hisar on Sunday, flagging off the inaugural flight to Ayodhya and laying the foundation stone for the new terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport.
New Airport Connects Haryana to Religious and Commercial Destinations
The Prime Minister launched commercial air service from Hisar by remotely flagging off the first flight to Ayodhya. "Today a flight has begun from Haryana to Ayodhya Dham. This means the sacred land of Lord Krishna in Haryana is now directly connected to Lord Ram's city," Modi said during his address.
The new air service will initially operate flights to Ayodhya and Delhi, with plans to expand routes to Jaipur, Jammu, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh in the near future. The Prime Minister emphasized that the airport would boost employment opportunities in the region.
"The more flights that operate, the more jobs will be created," Modi stated, adding that the airport's development aligns with the government's vision of "Developed India, Developed Haryana."
Ambedkar Jayanti Address Takes Political Turn
Speaking on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary, the Prime Minister paid tributes to the Constitution's architect, saying, "Babasaheb's life, struggle, and message have been the guiding pillars of our government's 11-year journey."
The Prime Minister's speech soon took a political turn as he launched a sharp critique of the Congress party, accusing it of disrespecting Ambedkar and his legacy.
"We must not forget what Congress did to Babasaheb. As long as Babasaheb was alive, Congress humiliated him. They caused him to lose elections twice... Congress even tried to erase his memory. Dr. Ambedkar was the protector of the Constitution, but Congress has become the predator of the Constitution," Modi alleged.
Infrastructure and Welfare Focus
Modi highlighted his government's infrastructure and welfare initiatives, particularly those aimed at marginalized communities.
"Our government has provided tap water connections to more than 12 crore rural homes in 6-7 years. Today, 80 percent of village homes have tap water. With Babasaheb's blessings, we will provide tap water to every home," he said.
The Prime Minister claimed that while Congress leaders enjoyed luxuries like swimming pools, only 16 out of every 100 homes in villages had piped water during Congress rule, with SC, ST, and OBC communities being the most affected.
"Flying in Airplanes Not Just for the Elite"
Referring to the democratization of air travel in India, Modi said, "I promised that even those who wear hawai chappals (slippers) will travel in hawai jahaz (airplanes), and we can see this promise being fulfilled across the country."
The Prime Minister positioned the Hisar Airport development as fulfilling his vision of making air travel accessible to all sections of society and boosting regional connectivity through the government's UDAN scheme.
Development Roadmap for Haryana
PM Modi praised CM Nayab Singh Saini 's administration by stating "Nayab Government (Excellent Government) is continuously working on the framework to provide jobs to thousands of people of Haryana.
The airport will enhance connectivity in the region and work as a catalyst for development as it will provide economic benefits for Hisar through opportunities in various sectors like transport, hospitality, tourism and businesses.
The airport is expected to serve as a catalyst for regional development, with officials projecting significant economic benefits for Hisar and surrounding areas through increased connectivity, tourism, and business opportunities.
The name of the Hisar airport, Maharaja Agrasen Airport is after a revered King whose ancient Capital Agroha is 25 km from Hisar, and it represents a significant milestone in infrastructure development since the formation of Haryana in 1966.
