An explosion was reported in the early hours of Monday morning near the Azimgarh checkpoint of the Mahmoodpur police post in Kaithal district, located along the Haryana-Punjab border. Security agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident after the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) claimed responsibility.

Rajesh Kalia, Superintendent of Police for Kaithal, confirmed that police teams from both Haryana and Punjab have been deployed to the site along with Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts to determine the nature of explosives used in the blast.

"We found some traces which revealed a mid-air explosion. We are registering a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the BNS and the Arms Act," SP Kalia stated. Importantly, authorities have reported no casualties or property damage resulting from the explosion.

Police officials initially approached the situation with caution, considering the possibility that it might have been a hoax. However, they responded promptly after messages about the incident began circulating on social media platforms. By around 5 AM, the banned terrorist organization BKI had already posted a message claiming responsibility for what they described as a "grenade attack" on the police checkpoint.

Law enforcement officials states that the viral message could potentially be part of a larger conspiracy designed to disrupt peace in the region. "Security agencies had been placed on high alert to monitor the online activities of the banned group," added the Superintendent of Police.

The incident has raised security concerns in the border district, which has historically been sensitive due to its proximity to Punjab.

The Babbar Khalsa International is a designated terrorist organization that has been involved in various violent incidents in the past, particularly in Punjab.
