The Haryana government has delivered a financial blow to its 81 lakh electricity consumers by increasing power tariffs for the first time in three years. The new rates, which came into effect on April 1, will see consumers paying an additional 20 paise per unit. The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission announced these revised tariff rates for the 2025-26 financial year late Tuesday night.
Agricultural Power Rates See Major Hike
Agricultural electricity rates have seen a substantial increase, rising from the previous Rs 6.48 per unit to Rs 7.35 per unit.
However, farmers will continue to pay only 10 paise per unit, with the government covering the rest through subsidies. This change will significantly increase the subsidy burden on the state government.
The rate hike comes after three years of stable electricity prices in the state and is likely to impact household budgets across Haryana.
