GST Collection: 9.4% Increase in 1 Year, Haryana Shows Highest Jump at 16%

March collections reach Rs 1.96 lakh crore as states across India report significant revenue growth in FY 2024-25.

India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection showed significant growth in the 2024-25 financial year, with Haryana emerging as the top-performing state, according to official data released on Tuesday. 

The gross GST collection for March increased by 9.9% year-on-year and reached Rs 1.96 lakh crore. After adjusting for refunds, the net GST collection for the month stood at Rs 1.77 lakh crore.

For the entire financial year 2024-25, India's gross GST collection was Rs 22.08 lakh crore, marking a 9.4% increase compared to the previous year. The net GST collection after refund adjustments was Rs 19.56 lakh crore, up 8.6% from 2023-24. 

On a month-on-month basis, March GST collections grew by 6.5% compared to February, when the government had collected Rs 1.84 lakh crore. 

Haryana Leads State-wise Growth

Haryana and Delhi showed the strongest performance among all states and territories with both recording a 16% increase in GST collections for the financial year ending March 31, 2025.

Haryana's GST collections reached Rs 1,19,362 crore, while Delhi collected Rs 77,002 crore during the period. 

Other significant performers included:

  • Maharashtra: Rs 3,59,855 crore (12.4% growth)  
  • Bihar: Rs 20,208 crore (12.1% growth)
  • Uttar Pradesh: Rs 1,12,212 crore (10.3% growth) 

March 2025 marked the 13th consecutive month where GST collections exceeded Rs 1.70 lakh crore, highlighting the consistency in tax revenues despite various economic challenges.

The highest monthly GST collection so far was recorded in April 2024, when the government received a record Rs 2.10 lakh crore in revenue. 

Several states including Rajasthan (9.2% growth), Uttarakhand (7.5%), Chhattisgarh (6.6%), and Jharkhand (6.1%) also showed positive growth trends during the financial year.
