After Jhajjar, it's now Yamunanagar's turn to receive a massive power boost. The district is all set to get a new 800 MW unit at the Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant. This comes as huge news for the region where two 300 MW units are already running.
With this new addition, the total power generation at the plant will jump to a whopping 1,400 MW. This isn't just about more electricity - it's going to open up plenty of job opportunities for local youth too.
The foundation stone ceremony is planned for April 14, and the district administration has already kicked off preparations. DC Parth Gupta recently visited the site to check how arrangements are coming along.
There's buzz that PM Modi and Union Minister Manohar Lal might attend the event, though nothing's been officially confirmed yet. Their presence would definitely highlight just how important this project is for the region.
What's really interesting is that this unit will be fully "Made in India" using home-grown technology. The investment is massive - around ₹6,000 crore, which is way more than the ₹2,400 crore spent on the earlier 600 MW unit.
For Yamunanagar's economy, this project could be a game-changer. Not only will it create jobs during construction, but also permanent positions once it's up and running. The extra power will also help attract more industries to the area.
This move is part of Haryana's bigger plan to produce more of its own electricity rather than depending on other states for power.
