A massive fire erupted near the Basai Flyover in Gurugram early this morning, destroying over 200 slum dwellings and reducing all belongings of the residents to ashes. The flames were so intense that they could be seen from far distances across the city.
Fire officials responded immediately and dispatched more than a dozen fire engines to the location. Firefighters battled the fire for approximately six hours before bringing it under control. While no injuries have been reported so far, residents have lost all their possessions in the devastating fire.
According to Fire Officer Jan Narayan, the area contained more than 200 slum dwellings, many of which were used as clothing shops by the residents. "Most of the dwellings housed clothing businesses. The presence of fabric caused the fire to spread rapidly and reach dangerous proportions," he explained.
Reports indicate that the fire broke out suddenly in the early hours of the morning. Due to the abundance of clothing materials, the flames quickly escalated to an alarming level, creating panic throughout the area.
Upon receiving information about the fire, authorities mobilized fire engines from multiple fire stations including Sector-37, Sector-29, Bhim Nagar, Udyog Vihar, and surrounding areas. More than a dozen fire tenders were deployed to combat the blaze.
"It took us about six hours of continuous effort to finally bring the fire under control," said a fire department official. The coordinated response prevented the fire from spreading to other areas.
Officials have confirmed that the fire has now been fully controlled. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blaze, which remains unknown at this time.
While initial reports suggest no injuries, the material loss has been substantial. "All belongings and merchandise stored in these dwellings have been completely destroyed," the fire officer added.
