
In a significant boost for elected municipal representatives, Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Saini has approved an increase in the monthly honorarium for mayors and other local body officials. The announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony held in Panchkula on Tuesday, where 10 municipal corporation mayors, 28 municipal council and committee chairpersons, and 687 ward councilors took their oath of office.
Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goyal shared the details of the increased honorariums during the ceremony:
New Monthly Honorarium Structure
- Mayors: Rs 30,000 (previously Rs 20,500)
- Senior Deputy Mayors: Rs 25,000 (previously Rs 16,500)
- Deputy Mayors: Rs 20,000 (previously Rs 13,000)
- Municipal Council Chairpersons: Rs 18,000
- Municipal Committee Chairpersons: Rs 15,000
- Vice Chairpersons: Rs 12,000
- Councilors: Increased amount (previously Rs 10,500)
The ceremony also saw Chief Minister Saini releasing Rs 587 crore for municipal bodies across the state.
Digital Initiatives Launched
To improve municipal services, several digital platforms were launched during the event:
- E-Samadhan App
- Urban Connect App
- Municipal websites
These initiatives aim to streamline citizen services and enhance the efficiency of urban local bodies throughout Haryana.
The newly elected representatives, including seven women mayors (exceeding the three reserved positions), will now begin their tenure with enhanced financial support as they work to develop their respective municipal areas.
