"During initial questioning, the suspects claimed they were transporting the cash from Gurugram to Noida," said Sunil Kumar. "However, they could not explain the purpose or ownership of the money."
Income Tax Department Involved
The matter was immediately reported to Surajkund Station House Officer Pahlad Singh and senior officials. The police have also called Income Tax Department officials to the scene.
"Income Tax officials are now investigating the source and purpose of this cash," the police official added. "Only after a thorough investigation will we be able to determine who the money belongs to and why it was being transported."
Police are currently counting the seized cash using counting machines at the Greenfield police post while continuing their investigation into the matter.
