In a shocking incident that marred Holi celebrations in Haryana's Sonepat district, BJP's mandal president Surender Nambardar was shot dead following a confrontation with his neighbor in Jawahra village on Friday.

The 42-year-old politician was near his residence when his neighbor allegedly opened fire on him in what police suspect was the result of an ongoing land dispute between the parties. According to eyewitnesses, Surender attempted to flee to a nearby shop for safety, but the assailant pursued him and fired multiple shots, killing him on the spot.

Police Investigation Underway

The Gohana Sadar Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the murder. Authorities have sent Nambardar's body to the mortuary at Bhagat Phool Singh (BPS) Medical College for Women in Khanpur Kalan for post-mortem examination. = "We have registered a case and are investigating all angles," said a police official from Gohana Sadar police station. "Preliminary findings suggest a land dispute as the motive behind the killing, but we are examining all possible angles."

Political Background

Surender Nambardar was previously associated with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) before switching his allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP had appointed him as president of the party's Panchayati Raj wing in 2021, after which he served as mandal president in the area. "This is an extremely unfortunate incident. We demand that the culprits be arrested immediately and given strict punishment," said a local BJP leader.

Reaction of the Villagers

The murder has sent shockwaves through Jawahra village and surrounding areas, with many residents expressing concern over the growing violence in the region.

Village elders have called for peace and urged authorities to ensure that justice is delivered quickly. "Such incidents create fear and distrust in the community. We hope the police will act quickly to bring the perpetrators to justice," said a village resident.
