The Haryana government has taken a significant step toward curbing illegal mining activities by establishing a dedicated WhatsApp helpline for public reporting. This initiative by the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau aims to leverage community vigilance in their fight against unauthorized mineral extraction across the state.

According to an official spokesperson, the newly launched WhatsApp number (9878380112) will be operational around the clock, allowing citizens to share information about illegal mining activities at any time. This move comes as part of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's directed crackdown on illicit mining operations.

Citizen Participation and Confidentiality

The bureau has encouraged residents to actively participate in this monitoring effort. People who witness illegal mining activities or spot vehicles involved in such operations can report them by sending messages, location details, and even video evidence to the WhatsApp number.

"We are appealing to the public to be our eyes and ears on the ground," the official spokesperson stated. "If you see any tractor-trailers or vehicles engaged in suspicious mining activities, please document it and share the information with us."

The authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. This confidentiality measure is designed to protect citizens who come forward with valuable information while creating a safer reporting environment.

Intensified Enforcement Actions

The spokesperson emphasized that the bureau is implementing a systematic approach to eliminate illegal mining under CM Saini's instructions. "Strict action is being taken against individuals involved in unauthorized mining operations throughout the state," they confirmed.

This WhatsApp initiative represents just one component of a broader strategy to combat environmental crimes in Haryana. Illegal mining has been a persistent concern in several districts, causing environmental degradation, revenue losses, and safety hazards.

Environmental and Economic Consequences

Unauthorized mining activities have significant environmental consequences, including soil erosion, water pollution, and destruction of natural habitats. Beyond environmental damage, these operations deprive the state treasury of revenue that could otherwise fund public welfare programs.
