Transport Minister Anil Vij has announced that a new bus station will soon be built in Sonipat district once suitable land is identified for commercial facilities. The minister made this statement while responding to a question during the ongoing budget session in the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
Current Proposed Land Is Unsuitable
According to Vij, the site they had initially chosen in Sector 7 of Sonipat isn't going to work out. While the total plot is 8.86 acres, more than half of it—about 4.6 acres—is protected green belt land that can't be developed. The problems don't end there, either. The usable portion is cut in half by a sector road, and there are high-tension power lines running directly overhead, creating additional complications.
"A district bus station cannot be built on just four acres of land. A district bus terminal requires a minimum of 10 acres," the minister clarified.
The Transport Minister reached out to the Sonipat MLA, suggesting they work together to solve the bus station issue. The minister proposed that the MLA coordinate with local officials to find suitable land that isn't part of any green belt areas and won't cause disputes.
"Once we identify the right location, we'll move quickly to build a proper bus stand in Sonipat," the minister promised. The new facility will include commercial amenities and should make a real difference for residents by upgrading the district's transportation options.
