Congress Worker Himani Narwal's Body Found in Suitcase in Rohtak, Haryana

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda calls Haryana "most unsafe state for women" as police investigate the murder of 22-year-old Congress activist who participated in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.

A political storm has erupted in Haryana following the discovery of a young woman's body stuffed in a blue suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Rohtak district on Friday. The victim has been identified as Himani Narwal, a 22-year-old active Congress worker from Kathura village in Sonepat, who had participated in Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra and was associated with several senior Congress leaders.

Murder Discovery and Initial Investigation

The body was found on Friday morning when passerby noticed a random suitcase abandoned near the Sampla bus stand road. After inspecting, people found a young woman's body inside and immediately informed Sampla Police. Forensic experts were called to the scene to collect evidence.
 

Sampla police station SHO Bijendra Singh told reporters, "We received information that a dead body has been found in a suitcase on the side of the highway and we are investigating this matter. It seems that this girl has been murdered, and her body has been thrown here."
 

Initial examination revealed that the victim was between 20 and 22 years old. She had a scarf wrapped around her neck and mehendi (henna) on her hands. Police believe she was killed elsewhere before her body was stuffed in the suitcase and abandoned at the location.
 

An eyewitness who vends near the bus stand recounted, "I had returned after 15 days and around 11 am, I saw a crowd gathering. When I reached, I saw the body of a girl in a suitcase. It was wrapped in a blanket.
The police reached at the spot and removed the woman's body."

Another eyewitness, a woman who had come from Rajasthan, added, "I saw a large crowd and a suitcase. The girl seemed to be around 20-22 years old. Her body was wrapped in a blanket, and her 'chunni' was lying nearby."
 

Political Background of the Victim

Himani Narwal was identified as an active Congress worker who had participated in various political activities. According to Rohtak Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra, she was a dedicated party worker who had joined Congress MP Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Her Instagram page reportedly shows photos with Rahul Gandhi. 

Former Indian Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV confirmed her role in the party, stating, "During my tenure in Youth Congress, my younger sister Himani Narwal was the District Vice President of Rohtak Rural.
Be it Bharat Jodo Yatra or any organisational program, she fulfilled every responsibility with dedication."

Narwal was also actively involved in election campaigns for former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda.

In a tragic detail that has emerged, Narwal had posted a video on social media just a day before her body was found, showing her attending a wedding ceremony.
 

Political Reactions and Demands

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed shock over the incident, calling it "extremely sad and shocking."
Himani Narwal's muder has sparked anger among the Congress leaders and ther are deamnding a high level investigation into the probe
He stated, "This in itself is a blot on the law and order situation of the state," and demanded a "high-level" and "impartial" investigation.


Hooda further claimed that "Haryana has become the most unsafe state in the country, especially for women," and accused the BJP government of completely failing to provide security to women.

Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda said, "The news of the murder of sister Himani Narwal, a struggling Congress Party worker in Rohtak, has shocked everyone.
The Chief Minister is riding high on arrogance while the state's law and order situation is in shambles." 

Rohtak Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra has demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure a thorough investigation and swift arrest of the culprits.


Current Status of Investigation

Authorities have registered a case against unknown persons under sections 103(1) and 238(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint by sub-inspector Narender from Sampla police station. 

"When I unzipped the suitcase, I saw a woman with injury marks.
Then we informed our SHO and forensic experts. The woman's body was taken to PGIMS for post-mortem and identification," Narender reported. 

Police are currently analyzing Himani's call records and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify potential suspects and trace her final movements. The victim's mother and brother have not yet commented on the incident.
