A heartbreaking case of elderly abuse came to the forefront in Hisar's Azad Nagar area where a woman was arrested for assaulting her elderly mother. The incident took place in Modern Saket Colony and it was captured in a disturbing 3-minute video that quickly went viral across social media platforms leading to immediate police action.
The women shown in the video is Rita and she was seen beating and assaulting her 70-year-old mother, Nirmala Devi. The mother is seen crying out in pain as her daughter continues to physically torture her.
Complaint Filed by Victim's Son
According to police reports, the case was registered based on a complaint from Amardeep Singh, the victim's son and brother of the accused. In his statement to police, Amardeep explained that his sister Rita had married Sanjay Punia from a village near Rajgarh approximately two years ago but returned to her maternal home shortly after the wedding.
"Since then, she has been physically and mentally torturing our mother while attempting to take control of her property," Amardeep stated in his complaint. "I have been forced to live separately from my mother for the past two years because whenever I try to visit, Rita threatens to file false charges against me."
Property is Reason of Assault
The investigation has revealed that property disputes appear to be the primary motivation behind the abuse. Amardeep alleged that Rita illegally sold a family property in Kurukshetra for ₹65 lakh without proper authorization and kept the entire amount for herself.
"She has been pressuring our mother to transfer our current house to her name as well," said Amardeep. "When mother refused, the physical abuse increased."
According to neighbors who wished to remain anonymous, the disputes had been ongoing for months, but they had no idea about the seriousness of the situation until the video got viral.

Inspector Sadhuram, Station House Officer of Azad Nagar police station, confirmed that a case has been registered under multiple sections of the BNS 2023 including 115, 127(2), 296, 351(3), as well as section 24 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
