The Haryana government has issued an official order declaring a temporary prohibition on alcohol sales in areas where municipal body elections are scheduled to take place. According to the directive, liquor will not be available for purchase on March 1, 2, and 12 in the designated election areas, as these days have been declared as "dry days."
Alcohol Ban in Election Areas
The Excise Department has specified that all establishments selling alcohol—including liquor shops, bars, and pubs—located within a 3-kilometer radius of the municipal election areas will remain completely closed for three specific days: the day before voting, the day of voting, and the day of vote counting.
During this period, no establishment will be permitted to sell or serve alcoholic beverages in the restricted zones. The government has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating this prohibition order.
Election Schedule Across the State
The municipal elections in Haryana are scheduled to be held on March 2 for 40 municipal bodies, including 7 municipal corporations across the state. The Panipat Municipal Corporation will hold its elections separately on March 9. The results for all municipal elections will be announced collectively on March 12.
Model Code of Conduct
With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has already been implemented throughout the state. This temporary ban on alcohol sales is part of the measures being taken to ensure free and fair elections by preventing any undue influence on voters.
