Haryana government has decided to increase prices of electricity, the decision seems to be influenced by upcoming local body elections. The decision was made during a recent meeting of the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission's State Advisory Committee, where tariff increases were discussed but no changes were approved.
Financial Challenges
The state's power distribution companies presented a detailed account of their financial situation:
- Both North and South Haryana power distribution companies have requested Rs 4,520 crore for their total revenue requirements for 2025-26
- Distribution companies provided comprehensive presentations about their losses
- The government has agreed to cover these losses to avoid tariff increases
Leadership and Direction
During the meeting, key officials participated which includes HERC Chairman Nandlal Sharma emphasized reducing the gap between average supply cost and revenue collection. Other officials were South Haryana Discom MD A. Srinivas, North Haryana Discom MD Ashok Kumar Mana and Haryana Power Transmission Corporation MD Ashima Brar
The Commission has directed power companies to appoint expert consultants to align operations with international standards and focus on reducing the difference between supply costs and revenue collection. The companies are also directed to implement more efficient operational practices.
