
On Friday night, Ashoka University witnessed two devastating incidents within hours. The first victim, a student from Telangana, was found after allegedly falling from the 10th floor of a university building. After some time another student from bengaluru ewas found dead near the main gate of the University. Despite immediate medical attention from the university's infirmary team, both students could not be saved.
Police Investigation
Sonipat Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Narender Kadiyan confirmed that investigators recovered a purported suicide note from the first student's room. However, he emphasized that the note lacks specific details, and they are investigating all possible angles. Police are currently recording statements from students and staff while examining the personal, academic, and social aspects of both students' lives.
University Response
Ashoka University Vice-Chancellor Somak Raychaudhury issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incidents. The university has pledged full cooperation with the police investigation and extended support to the families. The institution's mental health services have been mobilized to support the student community during this difficult time.
Next Steps
Post-mortem examinations are being conducted to determine exact causes of death. Police is also examining CCTV footage from around campus of the University. After these shocking incidents University has set up a special committee to review campus safety measures. Counseling services have been expanded for students and staff to prevent such incidents in the future.
