In a disturbing trend emerging from Haryana, 22 young men have abandoned their wives after some time of the marriage and fled to foreign countries in order to earn. Men made promises to their wives to return after earning money or to take them along after settling down abroad but these promises turned into fake promises quickly. Most of these men reportedly cut off all contact with their wives soon after reaching foreign and some suspect that they may have entered into second marriage abroad. The women, left behind to care for their in-laws, have now approached the State Women Commission seeking intervention.
Districts Affected
The cases span across multiple districts, with Karnal reporting the highest number at 7 cases, followed by Kaithal with 3, and Jind with 2 cases. Other affected districts include Jhajjar, Sonipat, Panipat, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Gurugram, and Faridabad. The Commission has issued notices to all the accused men and their families, giving them a one-month deadline to respond.
Two Returned after the Notice
Commission member Renu Bhatia reported that following the notices, two men have already returned - one from Japan and another from Portugal. The Commission is investigating these cases thoroughly, including checking whether these men had entered into second marriages abroad. For those who fail to appear before the Commission, deportation proceedings will be initiated with state government assistance.
Illegal Immigration Angle
In a concerning revelation, investigations have shown that at least 10 of these men used the illegal 'donkey route' to travel abroad. The Commission is continuing its investigation into the travel methods used by the remaining individuals. This comes at a time when the US has recently deported several Indians who had entered the country illegally.
The Women Commission has assured support to the affected women and warned of strict action against the absconding husbands. The one-month notice period serves as a final opportunity for the men to return and address their wives' complaints before deportation proceedings begin.
Women facing similar situations can approach the State Women Commission for assistance and legal support.
